Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Anthony Bridgerton, in the second of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring her charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix。

ANTHONY’S STORY

This time the gossip columnists have it wrong。 London’s most elusive bachelor Anthony Bridgerton hasn’t just decided to marry—he’s even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended’s older sister, Kate Sheffield—the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom。 The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate’s the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams。。。

Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all。 Kate’s determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable。 And when Anthony’s lips touch hers, she’s suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself。。。

I just didn’t like Anthony, as simple as that, he made multiple problematic remarks and I just can’t stand how he sees and treats woman。 I am aware that this is a historical romance and man were way worse, but idk when I read romance I expect to fall in love along with the characters and that just didn’t happen。 I believe this is the first time ever that I prefer the screen adaptation instead of the book。

Meh, it was okay。 Anthony is kind of a jerk。 And it felt kind of like a rip off of pride and prejudice with the enemies to lovers bit。 Still an enjoyable read, but wasn’t my favorite。 I like the Smythe-Smith Julia Quinn books better。 I read this for the Bridgerton Netflix series。

This was a slow burn but faster than the progress of the show。 Definitely liked this version better than the show。 Really showed a different side of Anthony。 Was a sweet ending。

3。45 stars。 this book was so much better then i thought it was going to be。 the characters were well thought out and the plot was so fun。 some things were outdated and the end was a bit slow, but it was mostly an enjoyable read。 i am so pissed off the series pretty much neglected everything the book had given and made kate so painful and serious。 unfortunately this isn’t a review about the show cause i could write for days about that。 surprisingly good book, very much enjoyed。

。。。more

this is the first time im saying this but i actually love the series better than the novel ): i guess i was really expecting a strong connection with much substance rather than lusty stares as motivation。 i think kate has more grasp and teeth to her words in the series rather than the books。 idk she tends to be complying at his every whim here and anthony was taking advantage of it。 i also dislike the entire nonconsensual thing and saying he's being denied of his "rights" but i also know that th this is the first time im saying this but i actually love the series better than the novel ): i guess i was really expecting a strong connection with much substance rather than lusty stares as motivation。 i think kate has more grasp and teeth to her words in the series rather than the books。 idk she tends to be complying at his every whim here and anthony was taking advantage of it。 i also dislike the entire nonconsensual thing and saying he's being denied of his "rights" but i also know that this was during regency era and women are living against the backdrop of patriarchy。 maybe i was hoping it'd be toned down orr maybe quinn wanted to view it as historically accurate as possible。 oh, and it wasn't really much of a slow burn unlike the series so i think that adds to my frustration。 it felt like everything was clicking into place just a few chapters in。 。。。more

I overall have had a little interest in the historical romance genre。 But after the most recent season of Bridgerton, I was craving some more context of Anthony and Kate so I decided to read the book。 I was very surprised and happy that it appealed to someone who is a devoted contemporary romance reader。 I think it really speaks to Julia Quinn’s writing that her books have some appeal to people who do not traditionally read the genre。I don’t feel inclined to read the entire series, but may feel I overall have had a little interest in the historical romance genre。 But after the most recent season of Bridgerton, I was craving some more context of Anthony and Kate so I decided to read the book。 I was very surprised and happy that it appealed to someone who is a devoted contemporary romance reader。 I think it really speaks to Julia Quinn’s writing that her books have some appeal to people who do not traditionally read the genre。I don’t feel inclined to read the entire series, but may feel inclined too after each season comes out。 。。。more

I liked the show better but there were definitely some really good parts in this。 Like Edwina and Kate's relationship and how well it shows kates trauma with her parents dying。 I liked the show better but there were definitely some really good parts in this。 Like Edwina and Kate's relationship and how well it shows kates trauma with her parents dying。 。。。more

This is my first Julia Quinn book and I read it to be prepared for Netflix’s season two of the Bridgerton show。 And omg I now need ALL the other books。 But only if they equal in spice and humor haha I absolutely adored reading about Kate and Anthony。 Such quick wit felt like Gilmore girls。 Considering that’s my favorite show of all time then this is a compliment of the highest order。 … god I love romance books

The period obligatory misogyny aside, Anthony hits every single one of my buttons as does Kate。 They're smart, sassy, and unafraid to speak their minds。 Well in Kate's case unafraid to think her mind because she understands how precarious her standing in society is and yet seems to balance expressing herself more than most other unmarried women her age do and not getting herself and her family in trouble。 I love the fact that they seem to at least try to communicate with each other when the relationship starts despite the fact that both of them have many reservations and fears。 I adore the fact that they try to work on their relationship and they try not to lie to each other。 I just love them!!Also, can I just say that (view spoiler)[the fact that even after they enter into a relationship they still banter and tease and compete with each other is so so refreshing!! (hide spoiler)]I love enemies to lovers as much as the next emotionally constipated person, don't lie to yourself we both know it's true, but it's rare to see that dynamic in the lovers stage of the relationship。 (view spoiler)[Usually they get together and poof the dynamic during the enemies stage is gone and they're lovey-dovey to the nth degree。 I still end up liking it most of the time but this book is a breath of fresh air。 (hide spoiler)]Highly recommend!! 。。。more

I’ve read this before and probably would have given in 4 or 4。5 then。 I’d say it’s a 3。5 now because there’s some not great consent stuff, but the dialogue is as delightful and sparkling as the best of Quinn and the trauma stuff hits differently for me now as an older adult working through my own stuff。 I re-read as a palate cleanser after the disappointment of Bridgestone Season 2 and it did the trick。

The usual fun Bridgerton read。 This felt like a retelling of The Duke and I in some ways though, I enjoyed the parts that set it apart from that but, witty banter, a 'rake' and an innocent woman that he falls for against his wishes。。。。 Even the compromising position that forces them into marriage。 Anthony and Kate were cute though, looking forward to binging the Netflix series。 The usual fun Bridgerton read。 This felt like a retelling of The Duke and I in some ways though, I enjoyed the parts that set it apart from that but, witty banter, a 'rake' and an innocent woman that he falls for against his wishes。。。。 Even the compromising position that forces them into marriage。 Anthony and Kate were cute though, looking forward to binging the Netflix series。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 When I watched season two I got completely obsessed with the story and the characters so I decided to read a book。 And if I'm being honest it didn't disappoint。 It was totally different than the show but I think I liked it even more。 Maybe because I thought that they took it too far with the engagement with Edwina。 Her character is a lot better in the books。 The book was very entertaining and easy to read。 I got through it really fast。 It had a lot of scenes of Anthony and Kate that didn't make When I watched season two I got completely obsessed with the story and the characters so I decided to read a book。 And if I'm being honest it didn't disappoint。 It was totally different than the show but I think I liked it even more。 Maybe because I thought that they took it too far with the engagement with Edwina。 Her character is a lot better in the books。 The book was very entertaining and easy to read。 I got through it really fast。 It had a lot of scenes of Anthony and Kate that didn't make it to the show but were worth it。 Also, Kate's backstory was more developed。 And the whole story was a little bit more predictable but also more enjoyable。 The only thing that surprised me is that it was lacking in the subplot。 Also, I think Kate and Anthony's relationship had a little bit more spice in the show。 But still, I loved this book。 。。。more

Simone Ashley was so hot in Bridgerton s2 I had to binge read this right after finishing the series, which made me realize I've never read a romance novel before。 What a milestone!! I've read a lot of fanfiction though so this wasn't anything unfamiliar。I know people who loved this book had issues with how much the show changed, it really is more inspired by the book than an adaptation。 Which maybe I should've taken more seriously when I chose to pick up this book because it didn't really work f Simone Ashley was so hot in Bridgerton s2 I had to binge read this right after finishing the series, which made me realize I've never read a romance novel before。 What a milestone!!
